Help Emma Akia Lara Aquino and other children live normal lives

Emma’s Fragile Heart Needs Your Help

At just 9 months old, little Emma Akia’s life has been filled with more hardship than any baby should ever endure. Born with a heart defect, her every breath is a struggle, and every day is a race against time. Diagnosed with Congenital Heart Disease (Ventricular Septal Defect, Perimembranous), Emma’s heart has a large hole that leaves her body starved of the oxygen it desperately needs. She is unable to gain weight like other babies her age, and her energy is so low that the smallest movements leave her gasping for breath.
It is heart-wrenching to watch our daughter battle something so severe at such a tender age. As her parents, we feel helpless knowing that surgery is the only way to save her life, but the cost of the operation is far beyond what we can afford. The doctors at the Philippine Heart Center have assured us that the surgery will give Emma a chance to live a normal life, free from the pain and exhaustion she feels now. But despite this hope, we are trapped in a cycle of fear and desperation because we have not yet gathered the funds required for her operation.
Our family is struggling to make ends meet. My husband works as a technician, but his small income barely covers our daily needs. I stay at home to care for Emma full-time, as her condition requires constant attention. We have knocked on every door, sought assistance from different offices, and applied for a Guarantee Letter for financial support, but so far, nothing has materialized. Time is slipping away, and each day that passes without the surgery feels like a heavier burden on Emma’s tiny shoulders.

As a mother, there is nothing more agonizing than seeing your child suffer and being powerless to take the pain away. I dream of the day when Emma can smile and play like any other child her age—when she can breathe easily and her heart beats strong. But that dream is growing more distant as the costs mount. We have exhausted every avenue, and now, we are humbly turning to kind-hearted people like you for help.
Please, if you are reading this, know that your support could be the difference between life and death for Emma. The surgery costs are overwhelming, but with your assistance, we can give her the chance she so desperately needs. We are appealing for donations to help cover the expenses for her open-heart surgery. Any amount, no matter how small, will bring us closer to the goal and give Emma the fighting chance she deserves.

From the bottom of our hearts, we humbly ask for your help to save our daughter’s life. Your kindness will forever be remembered, and we will carry your generosity with us, always. Thank you for taking the time to read Emma’s story, and thank you for considering helping us in this time of need.

All funds raised will be managed by Give.Asia and pay directly to the hospital.

What Is Ventricular Septal Defect?
A ventricular septal defect (VSD) happens during pregnancy if the wall that forms between the two ventricles does not fully develop. This leaves a hole. In babies without a heart defect, the right side of the heart pumps oxygen-poor blood from the heart to the lungs. The left side of the heart pumps oxygen-rich blood to the rest of the body. In babies with a VSD, blood flows from the left ventricle through the VSD to the right ventricle and into the lungs.

PROBABILITY
About 42 of every 10,000 babies in the United States are born with a VSD.

TREATMENT
Depending on the size of the hole, symptoms, and general health of the child, the doctor might recommend either cardiac catheterization or open-heart surgery. These procedures will close the hole and restore normal blood flow. After surgery, the doctor will set up regular follow-up visits to make sure that the VSD remains closed.
This Campaign uses Boosting
