Deaf & Everyday Heroes Give Pause To Fight COVID-19

Let’s take a moment to pause.

Imagine ourselves in the shoes of Frontline Responders and Everyday Heroes, AKA our superheroes -

Long hours on their feet, caring for one patient after another, juggling mental and physical exhaustion all while a hundred other worries are looming over their heads. Their needs are unmet, forgotten, lost in a sea of stress, anxiety, and the discrimination they face in the public, all at the expense of caring for us.

Their support for us is exactly why we need to support them.

With the generous support of 3 anonymous sponsors, Hush has given out 220 Self Care kits to the Healthcare workers at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and 150 to the Frontline and Backend workers at the Institute of Mental Health. We wanted to go beyond appreciation, to let them know that we understand their fears and anxieties, to encourage them to take care of their emotional and mental wellbeing, and to build their psychological resilience during times like these, and beyond.
Each Self Care kit is valued at S$60, and comprises of:

1) Our Signature TeaMoods (organic and natural tea blends from Sri Lanka), to encourage the recipients to make time amidst their busy day to slow down and take a therapeutic sip.

2) Hush-Inspired Notebook: A notebook complete with reflection prompts and basic sign language, as a guide for them to slow down when the need arises.

3) A stainless steel tea strainer or tea bags for quick brewing, enabling them to enjoy a relaxing cup of tea as and when they’d like to.

4) Hush-Inspired comic: the comic sends a message of empathy, to let them know that we understand how they feel, and that it's okay for them to cry and express their emotions, especially during tough times.

5) An instruction sheet consisting of:

a. A guide on folding sail boat origami (with a therapeutic twist), as a reminder to keep afloat and sail through tough times.

b. Instructions for the Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) tapping: an exercise to connect with the body, get in touch with spots where we hold stress, and to practice lovingkindness and acceptance for ourselves.

6) Origami papers, to encourage them to pass the message along to their friends, family, and colleagues.
We are heartened by the impact of our kits – to see their eyes smiling, to feel the gratitude and warmth and pours from their hearts. We want to do more. We are aiming to raise another 7000 kits, to distribute to various workers from NCID, TTSH, KKH, Polyclinics, Pharmacies, Diagnostics, and we would like to invite you to take part in this initiative.

For every…
- 10 kits ($600), Hush will gift an additional 1
- 25 kits ($1500), Hush will gift an additional 3
- 50 kits ($3000), Hush will gift an additional 10

Let’s come together to build an empathetic and resilient society. Together, we can weather the harshest storms, and sail through the roughest seas.
