My family consist of 4 boys and my husband, with the eldest being 18 year-old and youngest being 5 month-old. My 5-month-old baby Lucas, was born with cleft lip and cleft palate.
When I was 28 weeks pregnant, the pregnancy was deem unstable, as Baby Lucas was diagnosed with cleft lip and cleft palate, and doctors did informed that I may have to go through cesarean birth and he’s very small in size, and I might faced with miscarriage anytime.
Baby Lucas was born on the 38 weeks, 2 weeks earlier and weighing only 2.28kg. However, not only does he have cleft lips and cleft palate, he’s also diagnosed with Total anomalous pulmonary venous drainage.
He will require a major heart surgery, but due to him being under-weight, he was unable to go for the surgery immediately. As mention by doctors, we have to wait till he’s at least 2.5kg to take on the surgery.
He finally went for the heart surgery on 6 January 2017 and thank God it’s successful.
After his heart surgery, he has been going back and forth to KK Hospital every mouth to follow up on his heart, as doctor did warn that if his heart starts to close slowly, the effect may not me reversible and he may not survive.
Other than his heart conditions, Baby Lucas also need to go back to KKH for several time within a mouth to have his cleft lip and cleft palate check-up. He will require multiple surgeries to correct it until he's 18.
Beyond lip repair, Baby Lucas will also have to undergo additional procedures and therapies for orthodontics, dental, speech, and possibly hearing issues (as advised by doctors).
Finance in the household has been tight, all of our saving had been used up. We’re worried about his up-coming cleft lip and cleft palate repair.
My husband is the sole-bread winner in the household, and I can’t work as I’ve to look after Baby Lucas due to his conditions. Our household income has been negative for the last few months, and borrowing from friends and relatives to get by.
Baby Lucas will be going for his first cleft lips surgery on September 2017. As per doctor, after the September surgery, four to five months later Lucas will be going for the second surgery for his cleft palate. Our family have been worried about his surgery and the expenses after his surgery. Hoping that everything would be smooth.
We hope to seek your compassion and kind assistance to help support Baby Lucas's expenses, and any amount is good enough for us as a little goes a long way, no amount is too small to help us.
Hope that you can give us a helping hand. God will always bless you for your kindness.
Please help Baby Lucas
