Writing on behalf for my sister, Donna Lim, 37 years old. She has complained of her back pain for several years and GPs have been routinely giving her painkillers before one suddenly realized it might help by sending her to a specialist for a detailed check-up.
The scans later showed that she has a Neuroendocrine Tumor Cancer Stage 4.
The news was broken to her on 19 April 2016. Her world collapsed.
Later after countless tests and scans, she was injected with nuclear medicine in a desperate move to shrink the tumor that was growing in her, it had by then hinged to 50% of her liver.
She had a major operation to remove 80% of her liver, part of her small intestines and gallbladder on 19 Dec 2016. Apart from the big monster, she had numerous small growing ones.
After the major surgery last year December which cost almost S$300,000 which was covered by her insurance, she was told the cancerous tumor has been successfully removed. Left with a small one still in her liver.
She was discharged for home rest after warded in and out of hospital many times for biles complications. Guess what, she started to develop fever almost everyday. Barely two weeks, she was admitted again. Diagnosis revealed that the nuclear medicine had eroded her lung and damaged her bile duct. She had 50% of her lung cut off and heaven did not let her off lightly. She continued to have infections and have tubes attached to her body to drain the abscess. Two days ago, the surgeon told her to undergo a Thoracic Window procedure immediately or she will lose her fight. For people who are unaware of this procedure, this is a surgical procedure to remove part of the ribs and cut open a 4x4cm hole in the body. This is a World War II procedure to treat pneumonia.
To-date, her insurance coverage is almost exploding and is awaiting for the next renewal.
The last stay (12 May to 26 July) had cost her $346,601.60 alone which is still pending whether it's covered by insurance or otherwise. As I am typing this, the estimated bill is S$100,000 (doctor cost only).
Even if this is the last major op (fingers crossed) doc told her its murphy's law for her. Whatever can happen, will happen. She has to embark on S$5,000 per month injection for the rest of her life.
On top of the above, she has to go hospital daily for her Thoracic window wound cleaning to prevent infection etc. This will be a cost of S$70+ per day expense for approximately 2 years or longer.
We like to appeal for help. We may be an entire stranger to you but I will appreciate any monetary amount.
I thank you all in advance. God bless everyone!
